CURRUMBIN SANDS THINGS TO DO

When: Saturday July 16th – 7am start
Where: Firth Park, Mudgeeraba

The Kokoda Challenge 96km Gold Coast is considered Australia’s toughest team endurance event.

It consists of a gruelling, cross country team hike over a distance of 96km with a time limit for completion of 39 hours.

Why 96km over 39 hours? These numbers hold special significance in Kokoda history; 96km is the exact length of the Kokoda Track in PNG and the time limit of 39 hours stands in honour of the 39th Militia, who were the first Australian force to engage with the Japanese in PNG in World War II.

Each team of four participants (along with the help of their Support Crew) must trek the 96km course. They will have to go along fire trails, crossing 12 creeks and climbing summits of 5,000m of vertical elevation.

The end goal is to finish as a complete team of four, in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track back in 1942: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

If you’ve got what it takes to complete the course head over to Kokoda Challenge for registration and more information.
