On foot from Currumbin Sands: creek loop, surf club, coffee

by | Aug 1, 2026 | Attractions, Uncategorized

Park the car in the basement and leave it there. These five spots sit within walking distance of Currumbin Sands: coffee next door at Dune Cafe, the flat creek loop through Palm Beach Parklands, the sand path to Currumbin Alley, and two proper meals at the surf club and the RSL, all under 25 minutes on foot.

Where is the closest coffee to the front door?

  • Distance: about 1 minute walk from Currumbin Sands
  • Directions: out the driveway and immediately south; the cafe sits beside our building at 945 Gold Coast Highway
  • Hours: 6am to 3pm, seven days

Dune Cafe is the reason many of our guests never quite get around to making coffee in the apartment. It is a licensed breakfast-and-lunch cafe at the edge of Palm Beach Parklands, looking over Currumbin Creek. Order the coffee early and take it to the water, or sit down to a proper breakfast when the rest of the apartment wakes up. Locals rate the relaxed pace and the pet-friendly outdoor tables, so the family dog can come too. It suits early risers best: the 6am open means surfers, joggers and parents of small children all get their fix before 7.

What does the creek loop through the parklands look like?

  • Distance: about 2 minutes walk to the lagoon
  • Directions: south into Palm Beach Parklands and follow the sealed path around the creek edge
  • Hours: open all day; quietest before 9am

The loop through Palm Beach Parklands is the default morning walk from our door. The paths are flat, wide and sealed, winding past the still-water lagoon, the pirate playground, free barbecues and plenty of shaded lawn, with toilets partway around. Do it as a gentle 20 minute circuit or stretch it out with a swim stop at the lagoon. Guests keep mentioning how much of their holiday happened on this loop: it is the walk you do twice a day almost by accident. It suits everyone, but it is gold for families with prams and toddlers on bikes.

Can you walk to Currumbin Alley along the beach?

  • Distance: about 8 minutes walk from Currumbin Sands
  • Directions: south along the beachfront path through the parklands to the creek mouth and training wall
  • Hours: any time; low tide gives the firmest sand for the return leg

Yes, and it is the best free show in the neighbourhood. The paved beachfront path carries you from our door to the creek mouth at Currumbin Alley, where longboarders queue for one of the coast’s most famous right-handers. Watch the surfers work the point, check the fishing action off the training wall, or carry on around to the calm creek side for a swim. At low tide, loop home along the open sand instead of the path. It suits couples and early risers: the Alley at first light, coffee in hand, is the postcard version of a morning here.

Is the Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Club walkable?

  • Distance: about 20 minutes walk from Currumbin Sands
  • Directions: north over the Currumbin Creek bridge on the Gold Coast Highway, then right toward Pacific Parade and around to the headland
  • Hours: lunch from 11:30am, dinner 5pm to 8pm; open until 8pm most nights, 10pm Friday and Saturday

The walk to the Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Club is the one to earn your lunch with. Cross the creek bridge, follow Pacific Parade past the boat ramp and you arrive at the clubhouse on the sand at 741 Pacific Parade. Order the salt and pepper calamari or the chicken parmigiana and take a deck table over the beach. Guests keep mentioning the ocean view from the tables as the payoff for the stroll. It suits anyone happy with a flat 20 minute leg-stretch, and if the return walk loses its appeal after dessert, a ride back to the Sands is a five minute drive.

Where can you walk for dinner and live music?

  • Distance: about 15 minutes walk from Currumbin Sands
  • Directions: over the creek bridge, then left onto Duringan Street following Currumbin Creek
  • Hours: open seven days from 10am; dinner from 5pm nightly

The Currumbin RSL is the closest full dinner within walking distance of Currumbin Sands, and the flattest route of the lot. Its dining deck hangs over Currumbin Creek, the menu runs to generous pub classics, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is free live music to walk home humming. The room is big enough that weeknight walk-ins rarely wait. It suits families and groups, and the twilight walk back across the creek bridge, with the water going pink underneath you, is the kind of small ritual guests tell us they miss when they get home.
